KORG CR-4 Cassette Recorder offers an affordable
Multi-Track recording solution
Press
Release 2/27/04
Korg is
debuting a 4-track, cassette-based recording system — the CR-4. It is
unique among multi-track cassette-based recorders, as it includes amp and
effects models, plus a built-in 5W stereo amplifier and a pair of 8 cm
speakers, which allow the user to monitor an in-progress recording. The
CR-4 can also be used as a practice amp or cassette replay system.
The CR-4 features four track simultaneous recording and uses standard Type
II high-bias cassettes, making it ideal for capturing rehearsals, creating
high quality demos or simply as a “scratch pad” for recording ideas. Four
1/4" jack inputs enable mic and line/instrument level inputs to be fed
directly into the unit.
Included is Korg’s acclaimed REMS modeling technology. Utilizing a rotary
control, the user can select from six essential guitar amp models, two
bass amps, an acoustic guitar EQ, plus two vocal mic simulators. There are
11 ToneWorks effects (plus noise reduction), as well, including
compression, chorus, flanging, phasing, tremolo, delays, reverb, and more.
Gain, treble, mid, bass, and volume controls are provided for guitar,
bass, acoustic, and vocal models. An effects depth knob is also provided,
along with a tap tempo switch for setting delay time and modulation rate.
The front panel features an easy-to-use, intuitive layout. Users simply
dial in the desired effect and amp model, press the effect select switch
on the active track, and start to record. Each track includes its own trim
knob, level fader, pan control, and effects switch, for complete control
over the recording process.
Two speakers are mounted in bass reflex enclosures for greater frequency
range. They can be used for practice, standard cassette playback, and
4-track monitoring. A speaker mute switch and two sets of headphone
outputs provide maximum flexibility. Two main outputs (RCA, line level)
are also included for mixdown to an external recorder.

ANAHEIM, CA—Up until now, you
only had two choices when trying to put together a computer-based
recording studio. There was the choice to buy components from different
manufacturers which you hoped would work well together and would easily
configure into a viable system. The other was to buy a proprietary system
that only worked with a single company’s software and hardware. The first
choice left you wondering how to integrate all those different products,
and the second left you wondering what happened to freedom of choice.
mLAN-based O.N.E. (Open Network Expansion) SYSTEMS change all that. mLAN
is a Firewire™ computer networking protocol for MIDI and Audio that allows
multiple channels of digital audio and multiple ports of MIDI to be
transmitted and controlled via single Firewire cable. O.N.E. SYSTEMS are
mLAN systems that allow the user to choose different software and hardware
from over 43 companies with the assurance that it will all connect and
function properly.
“By utilizing mLAN, O.N.E. SYSTEMS take the hassle out of configuring a
computer music studio,” states Mike Martin, marketing manager, Digital
Musical Instruments. “It’s the perfect solution when using products from
multiple manufacturers, and it gives customers the freedom to expand their
system with ease.”
Some O.N.E. SYSTEMS can be built from gear you already own by adding an
mLAN expansion card to a product. For example, adding an mLAN card to a
Yamaha Motif ES transforms it into an audio interface, a MIDI interface
and hardware-accelerated DSP effects processor for your computer DAW. You
can then connect a mic or a guitar to the Motif’s A/D inputs and record to
your DAW software. In addition, the Motif’s insert effects can be used to
process the signal; you can select up to 16 channels on the Motif ES to be
simultaneously recorded directly to the DAW.
Larger O.N.E. SYSTEMS can include the Yamaha 01X mLAN mixing studio
combined with products such as the Motif ES or the new i88X Audio and MIDI
interface. When connected to the 01X, the i88X provides 16 mic/line A/D
inputs, two high performance mic preamps, ADAT I/O, multi-port MIDI
interfaces and 12 analog outputs, making it perfect for the most demanding
recording projects.
O.N.E SYSTEMS can be seamlessly expanded using additional mLAN products
from Yamaha as well as mLAN products from other manufacturers, including
converters and preamps from Apogee, Tube Preamps from Presonus and effects
processing from Kurzweil.
O.N.E. SYSTEMS provide comprehensive software support on Windows XP, Apple
OS9.2 and OSX platforms. This includes full support for Cubase (SX/SL),
Nuendo (version 1.61 and higher), Sonar (2.2 and higher), Logic (Platinum
5.3 and higher), Digital Performer (3.1 and higher), Yamaha SQ01 v2 and
many other applications. For more information on O.N.E. SYSTEMS, visit
