"It's
fitting that the our first signature acoustic guitar should be inspired by
Steve Vai, who has done so much for the evolution not only of Ibanez
guitars, but of the guitar itself," said Irene Schvartsman of Ibanez
Acoustic Guitars. "Like his electric signature models, Steve's new
Euphoria acoustic-electric has features found in no other guitar. The
clear highs of the top, back and sides of quilted maple are perfectly
balanced with the warmth of B-Band's UST pickup and A5 EQ and the result
is a truly exceptional instrument. It's so good that Steve has already
used the guitar to record direct-to-board."
The Steve Vai Signature Model, the EP7 Euphoria, lists for $1399.99. Each
Euphoria EP7 is autographed on the guitar's soundhole label by Steve Vai.

Numark Unveils CDX CD Player with 12” Motorized Platter
Press
Release 1/15/04
Cumberland, RI, January 15, 2004 – Numark’s CDX is a tabletop CD player
with an ultra-high torque motorized 12” platter that holds a vinyl record
for the ultimate in vinyl scratch feel. Styled after Numark’s flagship TTX
turntable, the CDX features an industry maximum 5.0 kgf/cm torque direct
drive motor, aluminum platter, dual "battle-style" controls, and
forward/reverse toggle. In addition, there is a superior VFD display,
slot-load CD transport, and extensive DSP functionality.
The CDX has several modes for scratching and looping, including auto beat
matching and smart looping, which uses the Beatkeeper™ to make perfect
loops effortlessly. There is also extensive cue store/recall with multiple
sets for each CD. Beat-synched digital FX are built in, including sonar,
slide, filter, echo, and chop. Effects can be manipulated with a separate
control wheel interface. The CDX offers a pitch slider programmable up to
±100% pitch control, as well as a high-quality, 100% Key Lock.
Numark CEO John E. "Jack" O’Donnell commented: “To say that the CDX
‘emulates’ a turntable is not quite accurate: mechanically, the CDX is a
turntable. With the highest torque direct drive motor out there, a full
size platter, and TTX turntable styling and control, the CDX feels as
close as it gets to working with a record while using a CD. For the
professional DJ who enjoys the convenience of CDs, while also desiring the
feel of working with vinyl records, there is no longer a need for
compromise.”

Seymour Duncan Announces
The Release Of The Phat Cat Pickup
Press Release 1/7/04
In the past, if a guitar
player wanted true P-90 soapbar tone from a humbucker-equipped guitar, he
or she would have to physically alter the guitar: Usually irreparably and
often destroying the re-sale value of the instrument. Now Seymour Duncan
announces the release of the Phat Cat pickup. Phat Cats are P-90 soapbar
pickups squeezed into a humbucker cover. They are direct retrofits for
most humbucker-equipped guitars, without need for permanent modification
to the instrument.
Phat Cats were created as a collaborative effort between Hamer founder,
Jol Dantzig and Seymour W. Duncan. They were originally built in Seymour's
Custom Shop for Hamer Guitars where they were used exclusively on their
Newport series of USA-made instruments. Now, Phat Cats will be built on
Duncan's regular production line, which will increase production capacity
and decrease the selling price.
Phat Cats are the call for the player looking for output and high-end
response. The tone is big, fat, and punchy with enhanced upper-mids for
extra "cut." Like traditional P-90s, Phat Cats embody a true single coil
design with two sand cast Alnico magnets and single conductor, braided
shield, hookup cable. The short, flat bobbins account for the fatter,
midrange-intensive tone; and the nickel-silver cover reduces 60-cycle hum
and tames the raggedness sometimes associated with P-90s.
Phat Cats are available in neck and bridge calibrated positions, and with
either nickel or gold plating on their nickel-silver cover. When used
together in the neck-plus-bridge position, both pickups will be
hum-canceling.
Phat Cats are vacuum wax potted for squeal-free performance. Mounting
hardware (screws and springs) is included, as is a detailed wiring
diagram. Phat Cats are hand built in Santa Barbara, California.
Jan. 15, 2004, ANAHEIM,
Calif.—Peavey Electronics Corporation, Winter 2003 NAMM Expo booth #5740,
proudly introduces HP Signature Series guitars. Named for Peavey's
founder, Hartley Peavey, the HP Signature Series is the ultimate
refinement of the playability, tone, style and technology Peavey has
developed over the past 39 years.
"I wanted to
bring to the market a guitar that encompassed everything I've learned
during my many years of designing and making guitars," said Hartley. "We
pioneered a lot of technologies that are now industry standards, including
shaping guitars with CNC router technology. We build each HP Signature
guitar on that solid foundation, using the finest selected woods, hardware
and pickups for brilliant tone as well as a distinctive, unmistakable
appearance."
The double-cutaway HP Signature guitar is constructed using warm, resonant
mahogany for the body and neck, Peavey's patented Dual-Compression Bridge*
for longer sustain and a solid quilt maple archtop to sweeten the tone.
The Dual-Compression Bridge system is a unique, string-through design
creating a metal-to-metal connection for singing sustain and stronger
string presence.
The HP Signature guitar also features an ebony fretboard for a velvet feel
with smooth attack; two of Peavey's patented, dual-wound, hum-canceling
pickups providing high output and unmatched tone; Schaller* tuners; two
volume knobs; one tone knob; and a three-way, toggle-style pickup
selector.
